The Story Behind Our Engagement

In late 2009, Dave moved out to Singapore for a work promotion for a one year long assignment.  Kerri tearfully waved farewell to Dave, and they embarked on a very long distance relationship.  In late 2010, Dave found out that his team wanted him to stay in Singapore for at least a second year.  Even though they had survived the first year through Skype video chatting and emails, neither wanted to spend the next year apart again.  They both considered quitting their jobs and moving, but Kerri was hesitant to move so far away.

Around this time, Dave enlisted the help of a close friend, Becky, to investigate what type of engagement rings Kerri liked.  Kerri and Becky visited several jewelers under the pretense of finding an engagement ring for Becky, and Becky encouraged Kerri to try on rings as well.

When Dave flew home for Christmas in 2010, he set up a secret meeting with Kerri's parents in which he asked for Kerri's hand, promising to care for her in all ways for the rest of his life.  He had a ring designed per Becky's orders and made within one week.  On December 26, 2010, Dave told Kerri to dress-up for a nice dinner out and took her to her favorite restaurant, L2O, where he had reserved a private room.  As soon as they were alone, Dave lowered down to one knee.  He told Kerri he loved her more than anything and asked her to marry him and join him in Singapore.
